All Riedel glassware is designed especially for a particular wine, and this mini-decanter is Cabernet friendly. Simply a smaller version of Riedel’s 37-ounce Cabernet decanter, this one works well for holding a couple glasses from a full bottle–say, for those evenings alone with a good book. Exhibiting the modern diamond look of Riedel’s Vinum Extreme line, the decanter makes a good match for those Cab glasses.
Decanting–pouring the contents of a bottle of wine into a serving container–enhances the appreciation of the wine by increasing its contact with oxygen, basically the same process as swirling wine in a glass to release its bouquet. Decanting allows older as well as young wines to fully open up and “breathe.” Because the decanter is machine-made and therefore affordable, more than one can be kept on hand to give each guest his or her own. This mini-decanter matches Reidel vinum wine glasses–same thin walled glass, same polish, etc. They feel a bit fragile feeling when empty (just like the glasses), but fine when full. Half a bottle of wine goes right to the slimmest spot of the neck. We wash ours in the dishwasher without problems; same with the glasses.

Lovely to look at, but I would not recommend them…they are FAR TOO FRAGILE the slightest tap, and they chip

This decanter is small, just the right size for 1-2 glasses of red wine. The quality is great and it does a good job.

I bought it as a way to hold my gift for my boyfriend (a printed out piece of paper), and though it could be multi-functional. Turns out, it’s pretty darn small and really only holds one glass of wine. That’s fun if you want to buy a bunch and serve guests or something, but otherwise, it’s pretty useless. If you’re looking for a real decanter and are attracted by the price, don’t make the mistake.
