Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the liquid within. Seeking the expertise of master distillers in Scotland, Riedel came up with its definitive single malt whiskey glass: a deep bowl on a short, pedestal stem. With its flared lip and curved profile, one can even imagine the bowl resembling a Scottish thistle. Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum stems and cocktail glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line in 1986 and this particular glass in 1991. Nice elegant little scotch glasses. I’d like something with a heavier more solid base myself, but these are OK for the price.

Nothing wrong with a whiskey glass for sipping, but no better way to class up the experience than a pair of these glasses. After trying them out for a few weeks I even sent a set to my father.
Easy to handle and clean, these are great sipping glasses for (Irish) whiskey. The short stem is a handy hold point without feeling unbalanced – the wide mouth on this makes for a nice drinking experience.

I wasn’t sure I believed my restaurant-owner/sommelier/friend when he recommended these, but they do make a difference in how you experience single malt scotches–especially the higher end products.
